Anti-Police Sentiment Still Backfiring on Democrats

Anti-law enforcement sentiment within the Democrat Party is based on a lie; that lie maintains that police officers are inherently racist and have it out for minorities.

With this lie, Democrats have aligned themselves with people calling to defund police. Rashida Tlaib, a sitting Democrat lawmaker, even stated that policing should end altogether in the United States.

As it turns out, some Democrat mayors actually did defund the police in their communities. As a result of this, crime has spiked and people are not happy. Left-wing mayors now seek to restore funding to law enforcement; however, their issues aren’t going away just yet.

Republicans aren’t letting Democrats get away with the anti-police sentiment, rhetoric, and policies that they’ve consistently embraced. Just yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell called out Democrats for their poor views on policing in America, Fox News reports.

Holding the Democrats Accountable

It is very important that leftists be held to task for their support of defunding police. Left-wing mayors who did, in fact, slash funding for their local police departments bear inherent responsibility for the crime surges that followed shortly thereafter.

On Tuesday, Leader McConnell slammed defunding police as one of the absolute “dumbest ideas” that has ever come up in America.

The Senate Minority Leader then said that Democrats’ push to do away with qualified immunity is not something that Republicans are going to stand for; without qualified immunity, every single interaction between a law enforcement officer and civilian could result in a personal lawsuit against the officer.

McConnell explained that without qualified immunity, recruiting people to work in law enforcement would become virtually impossible. Therefore, the Democrats’ push to end qualified immunity could be viewed as simply a backdoor way of defunding or phasing out police from society.

Buyer’s Remorse

Some Democrats have gradually begun to see the consequences of attaching themselves to the defund the police movement. As such, factions within the party are calling for reforming the police and making certain changes to how policing is done.

The White House, for instance, stated weeks ago that Biden does not share Rep. Tlaib’s view that policing cannot be reformed and therefore shouldn’t exist any longer. According to the Biden administration, the president remains supportive of police reform and looks forward to signing such legislation into law.

GOP Sen. Tim Scott and other Republicans have been working with Democrats to pass a bipartisan police reform bill. The White House maintains that President Biden would be more than happy to sign such legislation into law.
