In the Republican Party, there are very clear signs of tension between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and former President Trump.
On the right, there are more people calling for Trump to step down from politics. Many of these folks also want DeSantis to take a more upfront role in the GOP, possibly as a presidential candidate in the 2024 election.
During this year’s midterm elections, many Trump-backed candidates (like Pennsylvania’s Mehmet Oz and Michigan’s Tudor Dixon) lost their elections. Meanwhile, DeSantis, whom Trump refused to endorse this time around, cruised to a second term by a nearly 20-point margin.
Polls continue to show that DeSantis has the best shot of blocking Trump from winning the 2024 GOP nomination. Now, Joe Biden, of all people, is weighing in on the tension between the pair, per Breitbart News.
Biden on DeSantis vs. Trump
On Wednesday, the president was questioned about whether he believes DeSantis or Trump would be a more formidable foe in the 2024 presidential election.
Biden did not actually give a direct answer; however, he did say it would be “fun” to see the newly reelected Florida governor butt heads with the former president. During the Florida gubernatorial election, Biden repeatedly campaigned against DeSantis; though it ultimately didn’t matter.
"It'd be fun watching them take on each other."

The president’s latest remarks about DeSantis vs. Trump come as the former president is under fire. Trump took heat for referring to the Florida governor as “Ron DeSanctimonious” merely days before the midterms.
Conservatives ripped into Trump, saying the nickname didn’t stick and was a clear indicator that he sees DeSantis as a serious threat. Trump has since alleged that he’ll release purportedly unflattering information about the Florida governor if he starts a run for president.
The New Leader of the Republican Party?
DeSantis’ massive win in Florida led to some conservatives saying he could be the new leader of the Republican Party.
As the Georgia Senate race heads to a run-off, former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany stated DeSantis should campaign for Walker in Georgia. On Trump, however, McEnany said he should sit this one out.
Several thoughts on election so far: 1. Ron Desantis had a monster night. He won Florida by more than any Republican has in modern history. He won Hispanics, women, independents, suburban voters. All of them. 2. Joe Biden, if he doesn’t die, will be the 2024 Democrat nominee.

Trump was also advised to pause what is expected to be his announcement of a 2024 presidential campaign on Tuesday, November 15.
Time will tell if Trump does proceed with an announcement on this day. If so, he could very well be declaring himself as a presidential candidate, despite calls within the Republican Party for him not to do this.
What do you make of Joe Biden’s remarks on tensions between DeSantis and Trump? Would you like to see the Florida governor run for president in the 2024 election?
