Things are heating up in the Georgia governor’s race. Right now, the top two contenders for the Republican nomination are incumbent Governor Brian Kemp and former GOP Sen. David Perdue.
Perdue is running to go up against Democrat Stacey Abrams in the Georgia general election. The former GOP senator argues that Kemp has lost the confidence of Georgia residents and isn’t in the best position to lead.
Meanwhile, Kemp’s team argues that Perdue’s gubernatorial run is nothing more than an ego boost. Furthermore, the Georgia governor maintains that just as he defeated Abrams in the 2018 gubernatorial election, he’ll do so again later this year.
As all this unfolds, Perdue has just released a new video ad with the endorsement of former President Trump, as Newsmax covers.
The Latest Updates in the Georgia Governor’s Race
On Tuesday, Perdue released a 30-second ad with a full-fledged endorsement from the 45th president. In the ad, Trump states that Kemp allowed Abrams to walk all over him and was even afraid of the Georgia Democrat.

The ad also goes on to herald Perdue as a principled conservative and an outsider who can get things done. After calling the former senator an “outstanding man,” Trump goes on to laud Perdue as a smart and tough candidate who has his endorsement.

What’s Going on with Team Kemp?
In a parallel to Perdue, Governor Kemp is also making a statewide tour across Georgia. Kemp has been assembling with state voters and letting them know why he should remain on as the governor.
The Georgia governor’s social media feed also draws attention to recent work he’s done in the fields of combatting human trafficking, setting up anti-gang task forces, and keeping the Crime Suppression Unit funded.
All and all, the next several months are going to be interesting as Perdue and Kemp duke it out to get the nomination from the Georgia Republican Party.

For what it is worth, a recent poll showed that both Perdue and Kemp lead Abrams in a hypothetical general election matchup.
At the end of the day, it will all boil down to whether or not Georgia Republicans decide to throw more weight behind the former senator or current governor.
