Did Sally Yates Lie to Congress?

Did Sally Yates Lie to Congress?

(WatchDogNews.org) – It’s becoming clear that former President Barack Obama’s administration targeted then-President-elect Donald Trump’s team during the transition period. Unfortunately, retired General Michael Flynn was one of the officials whose calls the former president’s admin was listening in on. Now, we’re learning then-Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates may have lied to Congress about when she knew what.

According to Fox News, Yates attended a meeting with:

  • Obama
  • Vice President Joe Biden
  • Former CIA Director John Brennan
  • Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper
  • Former National Security Adviser Susan Rice
  • Former FBI Director James Comey

The meeting was about alleged Russian election interference.

After the meeting, Obama told Yates to stay behind and in doing so, she learned Flynn spoke to Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak during the presidential transition period.

On November 3, 2017, Congressman Denny Heck (D-WA) asked Yates how she “first learned” about the conversation between Flynn and Kislyak. Yates said she learned in January 2017 from the “FBI and National Security Division.”

That wasn’t true. In fact, Yates told Special Counsel Robert Mueller she learned of the phone calls in the Oval Office after “Obama dismissed the group.” The documents indicate she lied.

So, what now? It’s a crime to lie to Congress. Will Yates be brought up on charges? That remains unclear.
