Governor DeSantis Takes a Stand

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared he would not hesitate to authorize “deadly force” at the U.S.-Mexico border if he were in charge. This statement includes the possibility of launching missile strikes into Mexico to eliminate drug cartels.

DeSantis, a prominent figure in the Republican Party and a candidate for the 2024 presidential race, made this audacious statement during an appearance on CBS.

When asked by host Norah O’Donnell about his stance on dealing with Mexican cartels, DeSantis did not mince words. He stated that the use of deadly force is authorized, aligning with his previous hardline stances on border security.

The governor’s comments come in response to the escalating crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border. He painted a grim picture of cartel members crossing the border with backpacks full of fentanyl, a potent opioid responsible for tens of thousands of American deaths each year.

“We are going to lean in, and we are going to defend our country,” DeSantis asserted, emphasizing his commitment to national security.

When pressed further about the possibility of launching missiles into Mexico, DeSantis remained open to the idea.

“We would use all available – the tactics, I think, can be debated,” he said. His willingness to consider such drastic measures underscores his determination to protect American lives and sovereignty.

DeSantis has been consistent in his tough stance against drug cartels. In early August at the Iowa State Fair, he affirmed his readiness to use military force at the border.

Responding to a voter’s question about using drones against cartels, DeSantis confirmed, “Yes, I’ve already said that we will. We will lean in against the drug cartels. We will absolutely reserve a right — if they’re invading our country and killing our people — we have a right to defend this country.”

However, DeSantis’ hardline approach has not been without criticism. Mexican authorities have strongly opposed further U.S. military action.

In 2019, when then-President Trump suggested designating Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador called for “cooperation” rather than “interventionism.”

Despite these objections, DeSantis remains steadfast in his commitment to safeguarding American lives and sovereignty.

His willingness to consider all available tactics, including missile strikes, sends a clear message to drug cartels and other threats at the border: under his leadership, the United States will not stand idly by.

Governor DeSantis’ bold stance on border security and his readiness to authorize deadly force, including missile strikes, against drug cartels, is a testament to his commitment to protecting American lives.
