(WatchDogNews.org) – Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is fed up with Cook County, Illinois and they are publicly calling it out. The agency sent out a press release accusing the county of releasing more than 1,000 illegal aliens from jail.
According to ICE, Cook county, which includes the city of Chicago, ignored detainers and failed to tell the agency they planned to release the immigrants.
For example, Cook County officials allowed a Nicaraguan national to roam the streets freely after he was arrested for DUI, domestic violence and failure to appear. Additionally, a South African national was freed from jail after he was arrested for indecent exposure.
Henry Lucero, ICE’s acting deputy executive associate director for Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), was especially alarmed by the county’s decisions. He explained that it’s not just ICE who doesn’t know which criminals are being released; the public doesn’t know, either.
“Because ICE does not have access to standard Illinois law enforcement databases, it’s difficult to accurately account for all the aliens who have been arrested, released and committed additional crimes. However, with the limited information ICE can verify, we know that police resources are being wasted, more people are being victimized, and it’s a matter of time until something more significant happens.”
That’s the problem with the Left’s asinine “sanctuary” laws. They provide protection to criminals without any consideration of the Americans who will suffer because of their actions.
