In real-time, former President Trump is running his second reelection campaign to serve another term in the White House.
Only a handful of individuals have joined the former president in competing for the 2024 GOP nomination. However, the field is expected to get much more packed, especially as 2023 progresses.
Of the folks who are not pleased about the possibility of Trump getting back into the White House again, many of them are Democratic lawmakers in Congress.
Ahead of the 2024 general election, many of these Democrats are backing a measure that would prohibit Trump and some of his well-known associates from Capitol Hill, per Conservative Review.
What to Know About This Proposal
Years after the January 6 riot at the US Capitol, Democrats in Congress are making the case that Trump shouldn’t ever be allowed to enter the premises.
This proposal also extends to certain associates of the former president, such as former NYC Mayor Rudy Guiliani, former Trump communications aide Dan Scavino, and former Trump adviser Steve Bannon.
How far will Fox go to attack me? This isn’t even my bill — it’s a brilliant bill written by @RepNikema. Which, of course I support! And by the way, when the village nearly burns down, we don’t invite the arsonist back to visit. Duh. https://t.co/4aEKW3ebYF

Democrats want the Capitol Police, along with the Sergeant at Arms for both the Senate and the House of Representatives, to be responsible for upholding their proposed ban against the former president and others.
Democrats, such as Rep. Eric Swalwell, haven’t been shy about openly supporting this proposal and stating it ought to go into effect. Supporters of Trump, however, are slamming the efforts to implement such a ban, deeming it to be theatrical and nonsensical.
Trump Responds
The former president has been very clear that he’s not on board with a measure that would ban him and those known to him from entering the Capitol.
In a public statement, Trump took aim at Swalwell’s intelligence, stating the proposed ban exists only for the purpose of “publicity.”

Trump then made a point of noting that Swalwell is simply being used by other people who don’t truly respect him at the end of the day. Finally, the former president’s public statement stressed that other individuals whom Democrats want to be banned from entering the Capitol are “American Patriots.”
Right now, there’s no clear sign that the former president will ever be prohibited from entering the US Capitol. Furthermore, if such a bill were to go through Congress, it would require substantial votes from both chambers.
Seeing as Republicans now have a fairly comfortable majority in the House of Representatives, it’s unlikely that a measure barring former President Trump from Capitol Hill would pass.
