Open Borders Policy: The Most Significant Terrorist Threat to America

The United States is currently facing a significant terrorist threat, not from overseas, but from within its own borders.

This threat has been identified by Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, who expressed grave concerns about the current administration’s border security policies.

Upon taking office, Joe Biden made the decision to dismantle the southern border security programs put in place by his predecessor, Donald Trump. This move resulted in what Senator Cotton refers to as an “open border,” which he believes poses the most severe terrorist threat to the United States.

Since the implementation of this policy, thousands of illegal aliens from nations with known ties to terrorist groups have been apprehended at the southern border.

These “special interest” nations include Afghanistan, Egypt, Iran, and Syria. The sheer number of these arrests suggests that terrorists have undoubtedly already entered the U.S.

Senator Cotton reminds us that it took only 19 al-Qaida operatives to kill nearly 3,000 Americans on September 11, 2001. With the current open border policy, many times that number of known terrorists could have potentially crossed our southern border since President Biden took office.

Recent events have only served to heighten these fears. The brutal attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists, which resulted in the death of over 1,000 people, including more than a dozen Americans, multiplied concerns over potential terror attacks on U.S. soil.

The U.S. Border Patrol has reported that since the start of fiscal year 2023, they have apprehended 151 non-U.S. citizens who were determined to be on the FBI’s terror watch list after being processed.

This is the highest number ever documented by the Border Patrol. Furthermore, more than 10,000 illegal immigrants from special interest countries have been arrested at the border between October 2021 and October 2023.

The Department of Homeland Security’s latest threat assessment warns “terrorists and criminal actors may exploit the elevated flow and increasingly complex security environment to enter the United States.”

This statement underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive review and overhaul of our current border security policies. The safety and security of the American people must always be our top priority.
