San Francisco Takes Another Step Towards Disaster

In recent years, the United States has had growing debates about whether or not reparations for black Americans are appropriate.

Supporters of reparations often claim that handing out these funds is merited, due to slavery that existed multiple generations ago. However, opponents of reparations have pointed out that not a person alive today (or even their parents) was a slave or a slave owner.

On top of that, there are serious fiscal implications and the potential violation of anti-discrimination laws associated with giving out money to individuals on the basis of race.

Nevertheless, San Francisco, California appears to be going down the road of handing out reparations, according to the Daily Mail.

It Begins

Days ago, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors decided to convene for a public discussion regarding the pros and cons of racial reparations. During this public discussion, members of the community were permitted to share their thoughts.

Many residents of the left-wing city showed support for reparations. However, they didn’t stop there. They also rallied for debt erasure, free homes, and incomes amounting to nearly six figures.

Amid the rallying cries, the residents of San Francisco did not provide a plan for how the community would foot this bill. Even considerable tax hikes wouldn’t come close to the class of reparations that San Francisco residents believe are owed to the black community.

During this public discussion, singing and chanting took place by members of the community who feel that reparations are long overdue.

What Happens Next?

There are not any immediate decisions being made regarding reparations in San Francisco. However, the Board of Supervisors is set to have another meeting about this issue later in September 2023.

The group will also have to submit a final report on this matter. However, the hearing that took place days ago made it clear that the left-wing organization is leaning in favor of racial reparations.

If the city does go down this path, it may face potential lawsuits from those who disagree on the grounds of discrimination. Moreover, the money to fund reparations will undoubtedly come from California taxpayers, who are already paying some of the highest taxes in America as is.

Critics have warned that San Francisco residents and others rallying in favor of reparations are ultimately peddling a false narrative of oppression to black Americans.

What happens in San Francisco could very well determine whether or not other left-wing cities take action to implement racial reparations.
