Significant Number of Americans Worry about Public Safety

As it turns out, bad things happen when you defund the police. For the better part of 2020, Democrats and leftists spent their time screaming to defund law enforcement. They claimed law enforcement is evil, systemically racist, and rooted in the oppression of minorities.

Despite the inherent falsehoods of the aforementioned claims, they gained traction. Leftist communities, therefore, defunded significant portions of money designed to keep police officers on the beat.

As Republicans and conservatives warned would happen, crime increased. Now, as various communities suffer the consequences of Democrats defunding the police, a poll indicates significant portions of Americans are worried about public safety, according to Newsmax.

The Latest Poll on Public Safety Concerns

A poll by Gallup that came out earlier this week speaks volumes regarding the amount of Americans worried about crime.

The findings revealed 51% of people in the nation are of the view local crime got worse in their communities. This marks a significant climb from only 38% of folks who said the same thing back in 2020.

Only 29% of Americans said crime has waned in their local communities; this leaves another 18% who told Gallup they couldn’t be sure one way or the other.

More women than men share the view local crime is getting more dangerous. Likewise, 47% of Independents and 67% of Republicans share this view. However, only 40% of Democrats said local crime in their communities was taking a turn for the worst.

Reviewing Crime Statistics from the FBI

There are some fairly recent crime statistics from the FBI which are certainly cause for concern. According to the FBI, car thefts, aggravated assaults, and homicides surged to the tune of double digits.

However, other crimes (such as rapes, property crimes, etc.) dropped by modest percentages. Nevertheless, both the Gallup poll and the latest findings of FBI crime statistics indicate there is still much more work to be done.

Many communities that previously defunded law enforcement are now seeking to reverse this decision, amid the engendered public safety hits. Still, it remains unsure exactly what Democrat leaders expected when they slashed police funding.

It turns out social workers and others in similar occupations are not equipped to deal with hardened criminals and folks who are intent on doing harm to other people. Again, this is something Republicans repeatedly warned about when all this talk of defunding the police first began.

Quite frankly, it’s unfortunate Democrats had to wait and see crime go up for themselves before getting the memo that taking a sledgehammer to funds for law enforcement is not the smartest move.
