Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis continues to make headlines for his new book release, his appearances at various events nationwide, and the speculation that he’s planning to run in the 2024 presidential election.
Many in the GOP who soured on former President Trump view DeSantis as the best nominee going into the 2024 presidential election. DeSantis supporters in the Republican Party have also stated that he is more likely than Trump to defeat Joe Biden in a general election.
It goes without saying that Trump doesn’t like this. Despite DeSantis not having even formally declared his candidacy in the 2024 presidential race, Trump continues to lash out against him.
During a campaign event in Iowa, Trump unleashed new claims against DeSantis, as documented by the Daily Mail.
A Closer Look at Trump’s Latest Attacks
The former president claimed the Florida governor wants to do away with Social Security and Medicare. While in Iowa, Trump also accused DeSantis of being controlled by former GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan, who Trump described as a “RINO.”
The former president also claimed Ron DeSantis reminds him of Sen. Mitt Romney, who ran for the White House years ago, but ultimately lost to Barack Obama.

Various polls have shown DeSantis either leading Trump or having the strongest chance of overtaking Trump. This caused some heated tension within the Republican Party between DeSantis supporters and Trump supporters.
Many backers of the former president have begun labeling the Florida governor as a globalist, a fake Republican, or a figure of the GOP establishment.
Will DeSantis Actually Run?
Some supporters of the Florida governor believe the latest attacks from Trump are proof that Trump recognizes DeSantis poses the greatest chance of winning the nomination if he runs for president.
However, there are still speculations about whether or not the Florida governor even has any intentions of running for the White House.
When you realize that:
Trump is attacking DeSantis.
The White House and Biden are attacking DeSantis.

So far, DeSantis has not committed to a presidential run. However, those believed to have knowledge of his plans predict he will begin his 2024 campaign in May, once the current Florida legislative session has come to a close.
If the Florida governor does decide to throw his hat in the ring, Americans will be able to see if this impacts his polling and whether or not he’s able to take on Trump and successfully secure the GOP nomination.
In the meantime, there’s a very high likelihood that Trump will unleash new attacks against DeSantis soon enough.
