Why Socialism Is Gaining Ground Among Younger Generations (And Why That’s a Bad Thing)

(WatchDogNews.org) – Representatives Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), a.k.a. AOC, Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), and Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT). Two young women of color and an old white guy. Two rookies and the epitome of a Washington D.C. dinosaur. They couldn’t be more different. Except in one aspect, the one that’s most dangerous to the future of America as we know it, they are all self-avowed socialists.

A Jump to the Left

However, the younger the voter, the less that seems to be a problem. In fact, it seems to be a virtue. Recent polls by Emmerson University and Quinnipiac University are showing Sanders garnering as much as 50% support for his candidacy and his platform in the lower age ranges. Considering the number of people vying for the nomination, that’s a staggering figure.

When one considers the fact that most of the 18-34 age bracket grew up during the Great Recession and its aftermath, it might not be surprising where they throw their weight. Even a decade later and with President Trump’s successes over the past few years, wages haven’t fully recovered and the mountain of student debt eclipses Mt. Everest.

Now along comes these politicians who tell them it’s their due for their government to support them. In a purposeful corruption of the line from the Preamble to the US Consitution: promote the general welfare. The bill of goods they bribe them with includes:

Let’s face it, adulting is a scary proposition. Who wouldn’t want the things mommy and daddy gave you for the first two-plus decades of your life to continue forever and ever?

Lack of Historical Context

There’s little doubt that the Progressive-Liberal-infested halls of education have eroded the capacity for critical-thinking among Americans. They want students to take their word as gospel, why bother researching things when they’re giving out absolute truth and fact every day? The problem is they leave out things about Socialism/Communism they deem “inconsequential.”

Like what life was like in the now-defunct Soviet Union. People waiting in line all day for a loaf of bread and some vegetables. Multiple families with children forced to share a 2-bedroom apartment. The KGB knocking down doors and sending people off to the Gulags. All while the Politburo enjoyed private cars, plentiful food, and dachas on the Red Sea.

Even current events like what’s happening in Venezuela. Empty store shelves, emergency-level shortages of vital medicines, and an oppressive government known for human rights violations.

History has proven that the Socialist/Communist form of government cannot live up to Karl Marx’s utopian ideal of: from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs. Why? The baser side of human nature. Those in positions of power are happy to work the “from each” part, but when it comes to “to each,” not so much.
